What Is Retro Interior Design?

Retro interior design style is a mix of eclectic design with vintage styles and new forms. It is about combining a variety of textures, colours and shapes to create a retro look.

Elements Used In Retro Interior Design

Synthetic Materials: A use of synthetic materials such as PVC, acrylic and synthetic fabrics can be used with furniture and furnishings throughout.

Vintage decorative pieces: Studio pottery, vinyl records, and old-fashioned textiles are all good examples of decorative pieces to use within your design.

Furniture: All the pieces of furniture should be focal points, use unusual shaped furniture that has an abstract feel, the sofa should be broad and elongated, and styled with multi coloured throws and cushions.

Pops of colour: Avocado green is one of the most common retro colours used in this design style, paired with pops of orange and yellow, and voilà.

Abstract art: Either use one large piece of abstract art as a focal point, or layer up and create a gallery wall of art.

Flooring: The flooring choices for retro style should be natural wood, or a bold mix of tiles in the chequerboard pattern, layer this with shag rugs.

Lighting: Unusual shaped floor lamps, lava lamps, and multi-coloured chandeliers are all great examples of retro lighting to use.
